Transportation In The The Upper Valley

Planes, Trains & Automobiles — Getting From Here to There

With the Upper Valley straddling the New Hampshire-Vermont border in the Upper Connecticut River Valley, easy access to the intersection of Interstates 91 and 89 just south of Hanover has made the area an important crossroads of northern New England. Getting around the Upper Valley couldn't be easier!

Lebanon Municipal Airport offers daily round trips to Boston’s Logan Airport and White Plains, New York, where connections can be made across the country or around the globe. Charter flights also operate out of this modern facility that features on-site car rentals. An easy 80-minute drive brings you to the Manchester Airport, which has connections all over the U.S. and has become a popular alternative to Boston’s Logan Airport. The drive to Vermont’s Burlington Airport is also about an hour and a half.

For a slower pace and romance of the rails, Amtrak’s Vermonter offers daily service from White River Junction, VT to St. Albans, VT for northbound travelers, or New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., for those southbound. Several car services, shuttle services and two bus lines offer the chance to catch up on reading, take a nap or watch a movie on a trip to Boston or New York.

Dartmouth Coach offers daily service to both Boston, Logan Airport and New York City in a coach bus with Wi-Fi and power outlets, plenty of legroom and storage.

Thanks to a unique partnership among Hanover, Lebanon, Dartmouth College and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Advance Transit offers free shuttle bus transportation from the shopping plazas of West Lebanon to Hanover and the college, from Canaan to Hartford Village and between Hanover and Norwich. Another green alternative at Dartmouth College is “Zipcars for Universities,” an initiative that offers rental cars on demand.
